Level 3 The National Certificate in Amenity Turf Maintenance Training Qualification
The National Certificate in Amenity Turf Maintenance programme is a 70 credit introductory qualification designed for people involved in the care and/or maintenance of amenity turf areas which are not intended for sports use. People involved in the care and/or maintenance of sports turf areas are recommended to do sports turf qualifications including the National Certificate in Sports Turf (Introduction to Turf Care) Level 3 and the National Certificate in Sports Turf Management (Level 4).
The Level 3 Amenity qualification is a twelve month programme, comprised of 38 compulsory credits. Learners undergo a variety classroom, practical workshop and on the job where they learn the fundamentals of subjects such as:
- Mowing
- Communication
- Pest, weed and diseases
- Elementary botany
- Small tools and equipment maintenance
The 33 elective credits recognise attainment of skills and knowledge which supplement the compulsory skills and enable people to enhance their ability to undertake the diverse range of work covered by the amenity turf maintenance industry.
Depending on the unit standards chosen from the elective section, this qualification may provide credits toward the National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) (Amenity Horticulture Strand) or National Certificate in Sports Turf Management (Level 4).
